On a recent Sunday, my pastor spoke about the "Five C's of Saving Faith". One of these "C's" was faith's contrast. Specifically, a saving faith contrasts with the Law. Trusting in the Law for right standing with God has always only led to His wrath. This isn't a new covenant concept; it's been true since the time of Abraham. Abraham's faith preceded his circumcision by 13 years, and the Law as a whole by hundreds. In other words, he was justified by his faith, not by his works. (See Romans 4)

The faith that saves is the faith that says, "I believe with all my heart", because it is ultimately Christ's strength alone that gives us life, not the strength of our own will or works. That's why with this painting, I wanted to focus on contrast.

The dark rouge not only provides a striking contrast to the hazy background but also serves as a symbol of Christ's blood and sacrifice.
